11802797_10153166982698655_3332183990775982420_oThe convention actually started for me on Friday July 24 as I arrived that evening so I could attend the annual tailgate get-together. Qel’Iv and a warrior from KAG/Kanada Gevera (Shannon Barritt) were in attendance as well. There was music and good friends and food all around. it was a joyous sight to see so many familiar faces. Monk was also there that evening and did make a short introduction before heading back to the quarters we were sharing for the weekend. After many hours of socializing and listening to the federation citizens for any secrets they may let slip I headed back to my quarters for some sleep as the morning was fast approaching. What seemed to be a very short time later my alarm went off and it was time to start the day proper. I headed out to meet Gevera and travel with her to the convention site, however this was not to be as simple as it would seem. We meet a pleasant Terran and he invited us to join him and his companion for breakfast. Since we were both in Terran disguise we agreed and set off with them. It was a good breakfast and although no information worth anything was discovered, we had a good conversation. After breakfast was finished Gevera and I headed to the convention site to Volunteer as promised.

DSC_1051Upon reaching the site we were given a quick tour of where things were going to be and how the convention was laid out. Soon it would be time to start my duties as ‘guard’ for Captian Kurn (Tony Todd). My responsibilities included taking currency for his autograph, Terrans are a funny bunch they are almost Ferengi in their desire to acquire these scribblings, and making sure he was at the proper location for his required appearances at the correct time. We were mostly located in the main convention hall with three other Star Trek Allum. Richard Hatch, Gary Graham, and Catherine Hicks, but we did leave the main hall for a short time so Captain Kurn could take photographs with federation citizens, some will be included with this report. During this time two other members of the IKV Swifthawk beamed into Vulcan, 2Lt. A’Kiel tai-Daw (Cindy Burkholder) and 2Lt. K’Lay of the house Ad’Dur Clay DeBeurs). I saw them ‘Prowlin’ and Growlin’, as our esteemed Admiral K’Tan (John Gannon) is fond of saying, just like any honourable warrior would. while I can not say what activities they partook in I am sure they held their heads high and gained honour and glory for KAG, The Northern Storm Fleet, and The IKV Swifthawk. I must make mention that Richard Monk Torius was also on hand both days and since he is of human stock I thought he would be perfect for getting into places and ferreting out information that would normally be off limits to Klingons. It was a grand but ultimately fruitless plan as nothing was gleaned.

DSC_1052Near the end of the day Captain Kurn had a an opportunity to address the convention attendees. It was an honour to be at his side in the wings while he answered questions and told stories of his time on Star Trek and other shows. When his time was complete I took him back to the main hall and from there I was released to get ready for the coming dinner and dance. The dinner was a glorious feast fit for Terrans and passable for Klingon palettes. While the crew was gathered at a table with Ambassador Qel’Iv Satir (Paul Carreau) I was afforded a spot at the volunteers table an honour to be sure but I felt I should be with my Crew. However that being said they did get to eat first, must have been the Ambassador’s pull with the federation. Dinner was good and there was awards and platitudes given out, soon it will be time to dance. Once the dance began it was up to me to show the federation how real Klingons cut a rug, and what fine form I made as I grooved to the Earthers musical stylings especially when the Earth group Bony M’s song Rasputin was played and I showed them all the right way to dance to it. A’Kiel, K’Lay and Monk also stayed for the dance and joined in the festivities. Sadly the DJ did not have any Klingon Opera or any Klingon music for that matter. Again after hours of dancing and drinking it was time to leave and return to my quarters, however the night did not stop there myself, Monk and our other bunkmate Curtis plyed a few rounds of Cards Against Humanity.

DSC_1053Once again after a very short sleep cycle I awoke to my alarm, I must have had more to drink than I thought as I forgot to don my human disguise. I am now attending the convention in my full Klingon glory a state that did not even raise an eyebrow for Captain Kurn, to be fair he did say for me to reveal my true Klingon nature no matter what restrictions had been placed on me by the convention or myself. The second day was a carbon copy of the previous day with only a few minor changes. The photo op was earlier in the day and Kurn did not have any panels but did have one interview in a Store called the SugarShack. A fitting place since he did play a horror icon named the Candyman in the movie of the same name. I did see A’Kiel, K’Lay and Monk here and there through out the day but did not get to spend to much time with my crew as I was busy with other duties. As the day drew to a close I was able to send Kurn on his way back to the Empire and soon it would be my time to come back to the Edmonton region and resume patrol. I am very proud of they way my cre handled themselves during the weekend and I have since learned that A’Kiel and K’Lay made the front page of the Vulcan Advocate, appeared in a short spot about Vul-Con on CTV Television out of Calgary, and our first officer A’Kiel won the costume contest for best Klingon, little do they know that is how we always look. Kai A’Kiel.
