A simple recipe you can make anytime. A favorite at a lopno’ or QI’lop

Ingredients:

  • Phyllo dough
  • Ground sausage ( 1 lb )
  • Ricotta cheese 8 oz
  • Mozzarella Cheese ( Shredded )
  • Tomato sauce (optional for dipping)
  • Red food color
  • Green food color 
  • 2 tbsp melted butter

Brown the sausage.
Drain.
Place part of the phyllo dough on the bottom of an 8×8 or larger pan.

To color the cheese: Place half ( or all) of the ricotta cheese in bowl. Start with 5 drops of red food color and 1 green. Keep adding the dye to it is at the desired color. Adding a small amount of green will lower the intensity of the red, keeping it from being bright pink. 

In layers:
 – ricotta cheese ( if you colored all of it use half, if not used the uncolored portion)
 – shredded mozzarella
 – sausage
 – ricotta cheese ( colored half) 
 – shredded mozzarella cheese
the final layer top it with phyllo dough . Brush melted butter across the top of the dough.
Bake according to the directions on the phyllo dough package.
