AER: Star Trek Beyond (SoCal)

Beyond Premier 2Thursday, July 21st, I arrived at the scheduled coordinates with my small band of raiders in the hopes of meeting more Klingons, or facing some Star Fleet Resistance.  It would seem that the late hour was more prohibitive than anticipated.  It would further appear that local Terrans were not as enthusiastic.  (That or they were in San Diego for the Comic Con presentation).  On the plus side, I did not have to wait in line for tickets, though I believe that this may have been a Klingon Theater as I had to drag someone out to serve us food and drinks.  I did get a couple of thumbs up from people that were passing at a distance, but the theater itself was rather empty.  In the viewing room there was plenty of seating to pick and choose from as there was one uniformed Star Fleet spectator, and about 20 or so other Terrans there to see the film.  I spoke with the Star Fleet Officer after the show and gave him my card.  All in all, this was not the roaring success I was hoping for.

Fortunately my parmaqqay noticed that Thought Admiral Kris and his crew were planning a raid of the AMC Burbank Theater that Saturday.  I had promised that one day I would make the trek to one of his ship’s activities since he braved the journey to join me earlier this year.  So I sent him a communique and requested permission to join his raiding party.  Permission was received, and coordinating instructions provided.

Beyond Burbank 2Since I was not overly familiar with that sector, I departed to give myself plenty of time for travel and to search the surrounding area for a landing zone.  Such as technology is, as I neared my destination, my navigation device started acting up and had me circling an incorrect area and was surrounded by Terran dwellings.  Retracing my course I encountered a batch of Terrans who must have worked for security as they provided misinformation for a course correction.  So a couple of strikes and a reboot of the navigation system, I was able to identify the proper route.  After securing a landing spot, I still had more than 30 minutes before the expected arrival time of TA Kris and his crew, so I took my time to survey the area.  I encountered many Terrans that thought my presence was due to an event called Comic-Con.  After assuring them that I was there to track down Captain Kirk, I fielded many questions about my uniform, and received a few requests for photos; after which I handed them my card and requested that they email me a copy of the images.   Two groups did respond, though one only sent a solo picture of myself and not the group shot.

From the image seen here, I was informed by their parents that I made their day and that they were very excited to make my acquaintance and have a conversation with me.  After looking at this photo, I seem to have shrunk, as I don’t recall being that short between these gents.

I will say that the weather that day reminded me of Qo’noS, hot and humid, a glorious Klingon Day.

At the appointed time, TA Kris and K’Bob of the IKV Dark Sun arrived.  While we were in line for tickets we had a couple requests for photos from some of the locals standing outside of it.  The remainder of the time, the Terrans seemed more interested in observing us from afar.  The presence of two Imperial Klingons was more than most Terrans could bear, and they dared not approach.  Perhaps they feared that we were the tip of an invasion force.

Following the movie I was invited to join the Thought Admiral and K’Bob in a meal at the location where they normally hold their ship meetings.  I was delighted to join them, and enjoyed their conversations and company.  I look forward to doing more events with them.
