70 Year Trip Around Sol Completed!

Vital Statistics Report from Qo’nos:

The be’ (female) called Keela was born into the House of Septaric, a child of Admiral Kroesh, in the year 2253 on the 5th day of Jo’vos. Trained by her House in the Warrior Way, she has risen in rank to become a leader in the Klingon Empire. She is stationed with the Klingon Assault Group on planet Earth. She strives to live with honor and one day die with glory in battle.

On January 5, 2023, I completed my 70th trip around Earth’s sun! I never thought I would make it this far! I’ve lived in Florida, Virginia, North Carolina and California during that journey. I came home to North Carolina (after graduating college and living in California for 8 years) at Christmas 1979 with my daughter, Nikki. I’ve been here ever since. I have 4 darling grandchildren that I do not see enough of. My dearest hobby, my passion for years, is being in the Klingon Assault Group.

I learned of the Klingon Assault Group in 1994 when I met Larry Septric at a small, now defunct convention in Winston-Salem, NC. My heart immediately converted from Starfleet Marines to KAG. I joined the IKV Executioner as a Lance Corporal and stayed at that rank, only participating marginally because of my heavy involvement with the SCA (Lady Hadassah bat Aaron hai Karai) until 1999 when I shed that persona and immersed myself fully in KAG.

I have worked hard over the 24 years since and risen in rank to become IXL Brigadier Keela zantai-Septaric. I choose that designation because though I am Navy, my heart is with the Imperial Xeno Legion, founded by Admiral K’wISt (Twisty aka Joel Nye) and supported by Admiral Krikor (Krikor Ajemian) during his tenure as Thought Admiral, and I see the virtually untapped potential of growing KAG by being inclusive with other space-faring Aliens of any franchise. We are UNIQUE in this perspective.

As Dark Star Quadrant CO, I posted this to the DSQ ship CO’s on our Command Staff FB group recently: “And to our credit, we are the only fan organization, that I know of, that is overtly singular (*Klingon* Assault Group), but opens its arms to space-faring Aliens from ANY franchise thus providing the only GROUP outlet for many fans. Our inclusivity was born of early creative minds within KAG and has emerged as a means of recruitment to swell our numbers.”

So here I am…. at age 70. I only hope that I have helped more folks than I have harmed in my long march to this point. I plan to keep on keeping on doing the good work for as long as I can in both in my real life and in my KAG life.

So… 70 years old, huh? I decided I had to have a birthday celebration with my KAG family at my all time favorite restaurant, NY Hibachi Buffet. I knew not everyone could come and some had to be there in spirit. I was pleasantly surprised at the response. Ten warriors total met me at around 2 pm on Saturday, January 7, 2023 and together we shared a delicious feast and fellowship!

I would like to formally recognize and thank all who attended starting with my XO and his lovely wife: Cmdr. Martok sutai-lungqIj and Sandra Plante. Martok, your amazing support of our ship, our quadrant, our fleet and KAG in general have put us on the map. Thank you to Sandra for sharing you with us!

I am grateful that V’Korr got to attend. He had to leave early. He works all the time and has a new little warrior on the way. Qapla’!

Thanks also to IXL Lt. S’Risha, Vulcan, and her half-targ, half-Borg, the Raging Marshmallow, for always being willing to help raise funds for charity.

I especially want to thank IXL 2nd Lt. CAP’ri of Romulus, crewman of the IKV Executioner, for coming in his full Klingon uniform and ridges. There he was, standing in front of the restaurant, waiting for me to get there. As I hugged him, near tears, I said, “I can always count on you to represent.” He retorted, “You know I’ve dressed more outlandish than this!” I love that crazy guy.

I thank IXL 2nd Lt. T’Ja for attending as well! We have nearly twin birthdays and for the past several years have celebrated together. Her health has prevented her from attending KAG events for a while. She sat near Lt. K’Share tai and discovered they shared something in common! They are both US Veterans, so they had a wonderful opportunity to bond over the meal.

Lt. K’Share’s mate Lt. Kaleb tai also attended. It was great to see them as usual and I hope they can rebuild their armor and attend more often. I hear they are talking about attending the upcoming Shore Leave in Baltimore. I had a blast with them the last time we all attended together years ago!

Last, but not least, many thanks to Lt. Cdr. Dronoss vestai-Hov Che’ and his mate, Lt. Cmdr. Krikala vestai-Hov Che’ who have both been so amazing, active and supportive of their ship, my ship, quadrant and fleet. They were supportive of the IKV Executioner several years before joining KAG and often helped with fundraising at conventions, giving KAG members bathroom breaks, and helping take down the KAG table. They are indeed an up and coming power couple in KAG and a real blessing to our quadrant.

70 years old? I don’t feel 70 years old in my heart. 24 years in KAG? That’s about one third of my life devoted to the fan group. Seems like forever. I always said I would be that little old lady in the rest home flying down the hall in my wheelchair, waving my bat’leth and screaming “Qapla’!” at the top of my lungs. She’s becoming more of a reality every day.

I think I kinda like that!
