How to Succeed in KAG

When it comes to command in KAG, there are several ways to fail. Here are a few ways to succeed:

Firstly, despite the fact that we have military ranks, KAG is not a military organization. No one will be court-martialed or imprisoned in any real sense if they disobey a direct order. It's a casual group, think herding cats instead of commanding troops. Don't expect your “underlings” to serve you, serve them.

Item B. It's not about you, you tin-plated swaggering dictator with delusions of godhood! The most important lesson we can learn from the early years of KAG is that a talented, well costumed charismatic leader only goes so far. A ship is more than the captain, often times the least obvious person is the most important. A good ship runs well when the spotlight is shared. A good captain is a facilitator, someone who does not take credit, but shares it. You may have done 90% of the work, but you really don't need the praise, the others do, give it to them.

#3 Communication. You may be tired. You may be overwhelmed with crap. You may be burned out. But your crew needs to know what's going on. Even if you told them 3 or 4 times, if they don't get it, if they don't know where the next event is, or how you want to do it, you have to take responsibility and make sure they do. Also if you get a new recruit, you need to feed them like baby birds, talk to them regularly, make sure THEY are having fun.

Fourth: Have a direction. It's not enough to just be there, you need to have goals and ideas of things you want to do. Just being a Klingon ship will get you going for a few months, but you need to figure out how you want to have fun, costuming? Parties? Community Service? Performing? Crafting? Figure it out and keep it clear.

These are a few of the most important things you have to do to succeed in KAG.
