KAG Chocolate Party at StellarCon 2001
As we all know, chocolate is a Klingon aphrodisiac. HuMans use it too. I
had attended a Chocolate Party at an earlier convention and was very
impressed, so I, as Dark Star Quadrant CO, I decided to host one at
StellarCon 2001. Katkith and I had just bought our rolling cart to move
things into a convention hotel, and this seemed like a good opportunity
to try it out.
Much preparation was done. I arranged for a Federation chef to create a
full size sheet cake with real buttercream chocolate icing with
Klingon decorations. Many other commercially prepared chocolate
purchases were made. Donations from attendees were promised, so I knew
that there would be lots and lots of chocolate and chocolate flavored
items.
I also had decorations for the room (as well as the KAG table). Upon
arrival to the hotel, Katkith and I offloaded
two fully-extended
cart loads piled high full of stuff. This is the most that the rolling
cart has had to carry for one convention
ever. The cake got a
little damaged in the transit (the buttercream icing got warm in the
trunk of the shuttle and slid around a little), but it was still
deliciously edible.
Preparations for the Friday night KAG Chocolate Party zoomed into high
gear and, when finished, everything looked awesome. We had cake,
platters of cookies, and heaping bowls candies galore! Every counter
space in the room was covered along with two card tables set up for the
overflow. Drinks were available in the bathroom.
The party was a huge success with scores of chocolate loving visitors!!!
Even the 501st came, fully armored, and they had bibs with lobsters on
them, to pick on the "crabheads."
Everyone enjoyed the party, but not enough was eaten, so Saturday night
we hosted Chocolate Party, Part Deux. Finally, most of the cake was gone
along with 80% of the cookies and candies. We still had to take some
home. It was a glorious 2-day chocolate binge, at least for me. I
couldn't eat chocolate for a week!
For a couple years afterwards, several asked if we were going to do
another chocolate party, but I wouldn't promise anything. It was a lot
of work, but I hope one day to do it again. This was a memorable party,
but holo-images are currently lost. You'll just have to use your
imagination. Eat some chocolate while you do.
