Some Thoughts on Warrior
Recruiting by Capt. Keela sutai-Septaric (Leila McMichael) [email protected]
New Klingon Warriors, or Alien Mercenaries in service
to the Klingon Empire, are the lifeblood of KAG. How can you attract
these new recruits? Back in the day, when I had more time to set up and
work in recruiting, these are the methods that I found that brought the
most results.
Your Appearance: A well-armored Klingon Warrior is the single
most IMPORTANT recruitment weapon in your arsenal. Of course, every
uniform is a work in progress, but if you take the time and effort to
make yourself look as good and as intimidating as possible, you will
get better results. Be the Warrior you appear to be -- stay in persona,
but do not be uber-Klingon as that will deter a positive response. Keep
your sense of humor!
Your KAG Table: A well-decorated KAG table with applications,
writing weapons, gum or candy bait, and display items, is the second
most important recruitment weapon. It takes time to accumulate those
posters and artifacts that attract new warriors, but it is well worth
it. Business cards can be carried on your person at all times in case
you do
not have a table powered up. Make sure all your contact information is
current.
Applications: The IKAV Nemesis once had a very striking
recruitment poster with a buff Klingon male background on them. I was
highly impressed by these posters. Think about the effect you wish to
convey -- you WANT to stir your new recruit's Warrior Spirit! ALWAYS
refer new recruits to the robo-application process even if you take
their paper
application. This puts them into the KAG database and is a very
important tool to facilitate their service to the Empire.
Weaponry: Weapons always look good, but because so many cons and
public places forbid them, I have simply stopped carrying any weapons
except for use as display. Safety is paramount; wooden or plastic
weapons are preferred over metal for these reasons. Keep KAG's
guidelines on weapons use and peace-bonding foremost in your mind.
Panels: Accept panel challenges if your schedule permits.
Represent your species and your Empire well when you are called upon to
do so. Be knowledgeable.
Costume Contests: These can be a venue to show off your finery
or your latest uniform to new recruits that you may have missed. Don't
dream it, be it.
Klingon Ceremonies: Promotions and awards ceremonies and ship
meetings in public also attract a great deal of attention, and
potential recruits will be gained.. It hones the new Warrior's
perception of comportment and instills a sense of pride in being part
of a Warrior community such as KAG. Having a chance to speak and act as
a Klingon is important to the growth of your new recruit. They will
follow by example, so teach them well.
Pride: You are a self-assured, well-armored, superior Klingon
Warrior or Alien Mercenary in KAG. Convey this attitude, along with
Honor, and recruits will be attracted to you because they want to be
just like you.
