Mindscanner
FROM STORMRIDER FLEET

ChonBeyPinky, get the mindscrambler! The moment is right, I have their attention! No, it wasn't an -egg- scrambler, you've ruined it... nevermind.

Qapla! I see you are all trembling in fear. So why do I hear snorts and snickers?

Some of you know me, I'm ChonBey of the IKV T'Mar. I joined at the 2nd T'Mar meeting after it formed about 8-1/2 years ago, before it was KAG and weathered the days since then as the T'Mar's Communications and Operations Officer. It's been my job to be the IKV T'Mar's contact person, PR, webmaster, primary event organizer, and general whipping boy. JOAT, MON.

I'm honored to accept the position of Stormrider Fleet CO and thank Qaolin for the herculean job he's done helping rebuild the Western fleet of KAG. He'll be missed, mostly because he's mastered the fine art of ducking. Bada bump.

There's something we all need to do... communicate. If you are a lone Klingon on a new ship with no crew, make some noise to let us know you are there. Join the Stormrider Fleet list, join the KAG listserve and talk to each other. You may find someone out there is within driving distance. Communicate with other organizations- there is honor in playing well with others, even Feddies. }};'[)>

The toughest job is being that first Klingon starting a ship with just yourself or only a couple others. But even one lone Klingon at a charity walk can be a big hit. Often people go away with the impression that there were a lot more of us, anyway. So don't think just because you have a small crew or only yourself that you can't make a local fuss.

A word on invitations and press releases: whether inviting other groups or sending out a press release about an event, plan ahead. Send out a minimum of a month in advance (2 months is better) and send out a reminder or two closer to the event. And include all the details! If you make them go look things up, chances are they won't get around to it. It's fine to say "for more information see our website www.outintheboonies.com" but that's for details; basic info such as time, date, city -and- state, is it a potluck, is it a costumed event, etc. should be included in the message itself. Break it up into paragraphs- one long huge paragraph of information is hard to read. If you don't organize the invitation, people will think you can't organize an event.

Don't be shy about inviting other ships and clubs even if they are far away. It's not uncommon for Klingons to drive 3 hours or more for an event. You'll never know if you don't ask! Vary the events, especially if few seem interested. For parties: Laser Tag, squirt gun fights, foam batleth tourny, or just sit around and BS. But be careful not to promise what you may not be able to deliver.

Use the resources of KAG- contact KAG Quartermasters for help with costuming, or ask on the lists. eCorps is there to help with a website, make sure you list where you are, city and state. Careful how you describe your ship on your website, there is a fine line between creative Klingon bluster and pretending to be more than you are. And no one is interested in joining a paper tiger.

And remember, I'm only doing this for the pension.
