TWO THOUSAND FOR 2000

Recently I received a message from our fellow Klingons up north. A Challenge has been issued. That the Klingons from all parts of KAG come together to perform a mighty feat. The task is honorable, the cause is worthy. Let's take it up and join our fellow KAG members for the glory of the Empire!!

And now, I give you Adm. Botaq, and The Challenge....

Greetings,

2 years ago, it was decided to issue a national challenge that would see all 3 of our fleets here in Canada working as one. The Challenge was a simple one. Each fleet was to collect as many "POP TABS" as possible in the period between Toronto Treks (Canada's largest fan run convention.) to win. The challenge between fleets quickly heated up with the help of a few well selected words sent through our KAG List. Soon barbs were flying from coast to coast. Now you're thinking, "This is a good thing?" Well, actually, yes. You see, the members were acting in character and so it was always taken as such. By the end of the first year's challenge, the fleet banners were on the line as side bets. That first year, the ICE DRAGON FLEET, my fleet at the time, came out on top. The funds that were collected went to the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.

Very quickly, it was decided that we would do it again. At the Grand Assembly the gauntlet was again thrown down by then Captain Kalot and accepted by my XO. This time, more than fleet banners were on the line. Things like underwear and other such necessities were on the line. (Underwear makes a wonderful battle streamer.) Over the last year the members of the Ice Dragon Fleet gloated while the members of Steel Fist Fleet and Dark Fire Fleet threatened to unseat the champs. The Battle was fierce, including raids deep into "Enemy Territory." When again Toronto Trek rolled around, The Ice Dragon Fleet again found itself at the top of the pile as the battle trophies were handed over. In the end 520 pounds of Pop tabs at $.58 per pound were collected which translates into $301.60 for the Children's Wish Foundation, our chosen charity this year because of its national base.

And so, here we are at this years challenge which as you can see has been issued again. The difference this year is the expansion from an internal challenge to one that will involve other organizations. Our goal this year is a lofty one. We are working to collect 2000 lbs. for the year 2000. Yes that is a lot when you consider that a single pop tab weighs nearly nothing. The charity remains the same as well. The Children's Wish Foundation is an international organization that grants wishes to ill children. This charity is one that I personally have been involved with for many years, going back to the KAG / Jam Fundraisers that we use to do.

In closing I hope that this will interest you and KAG as much as it has brought KAG/KANADA together as one cohesive body from coast to coast.. If you are interested, then more details will be worked out. Until then, KAI KAG, KAI KAG/KANADA!
