The KAG Podcast Takes to the Road

With many of the fleets ships coming together for the annual Treklanta convention in Atlanta, Georgia The last weekend of April, 2017 and the chance to talk with General Martok himself, I took the KAG podcast live.

My goal was to talk with as many members of KAG as I could corral there and talk with them about their persona, their uniforms and their ideas about Klingon themed activities that every KAG member could do. I wanted to give them a forum where they could share their ideas. I found a lot of great people ready to do just that.

So Saturday morning I broke out my new recording system, went to the Phoenix Rising table and set up a live recording studio. This was a new experience for me. I had tested the equipment aboard ship before disembarking for the convention but problems still presented themselves to be conquered. I’m glad I brought a backup laptop with me, every so often my primary laptop would stop working with the Blu Snowball microphone I just purchased. Fortunately switching to my backup computer allowed me to keep recording. Hopefully we should have a wealth of material for future podcasts that every Klingon (and human) can enjoy.
I also planned on establishing a relationship with the convention committee that would allow me to plan future (and grander) activities with Treklanta. As such my wife (Trudy Myers) and I did six scheduled panels over the weekend:
• Friday night’s label pin creation panal was well attended and I saw the participants results throughout the rest of the weekend, with people proudly displaying the pins they painted and attached a pin back to. Proudly proclaiming their inner warrior.
• On Saturday, my wife showed everyone how to attach a proper set of ridges to a Klingon’s forehead. But not before a German television crew, who were filming a piece for the Miss Klingon Pageant, purchased one of the headpieces she was going to use in the demonstration. Qob, it looks like one of your headpieces is going to be featured on German TV.
• Saturday afternoon I held a KAG Meet and Greet before the beauty pageant and a KAG Quartermaster’s Show and Tell afterwards. We need more advertising about these in the future as well as getting them scheduled earlier in the day.
• Sunday I ran a Mokbara (tai chi) exercise class in the morning and a discussion about Klingon themed activities people could do especially outside of conventions in the afternoon.
We had a nice attendance for activities right out of the gate. Hopefully relationships with the convention organizers have been cemented enough to allow for more planning and participation next year. I plan on making a better showing in 2018.
