On Feb 27, the Star Trek community lost one of its most beloved and legendary actors, Leonard Nimoy.
As the world morns for the beloved Character Spock , thousands of Trekers who wished to pay their respects were unable to travel to his funeral but instead held wakes in his memory. The Denver fan community almost 200 people paid their respects on March 4 2015, at the Sidewinder tavern presented in conjunction with Starfest and the geek pavilion at the Denver county fair, from 7pm till 11.pm. I was honored at the chance I was able to attend the event. Programming consisted of shared stories of fans that had meet and were inspired by the actor, video clips of him in his iconic role, blooper reels, interviews and a redidition of amazing grace on the bagpipes by Ben Holmes. The tavern offered a variety of drinks including Romulan ale, Saruian Brandy, and Vulcan mind melds. Pumpkin King Tonee Bagley ,carved and shared a memorial pumpkin, and a cake was shared with all who attended. Clips of the event were even shown on Fox 31s 9 O’clock news.
