CONvergence 2009, "Humor in SciFi"
Compiled from contributions by the RakeHell members.

This is the big one for warriors in the Cold Death Quad. It expanded last year to a 4 day convention and had just under 4000 memberships this year.

The RakeHell always throws a party each night of the Convention. Thursday night we had a little patio party, we did not want to destroy people’s souls so early with the horrors of the “Klingon Nightmare”. Friday Night we unveiled it to them; Ghostbusters came through and failed to subdue the unspeakable dread, all sorts of unsuspecting folks came and had their souls etched by that which scares the most hardened Klingon Warrior… Pink. Fluffy flowers. Care bears. My Little Pony. Kisses on the walls. Everyone who exited proclaimed it the scariest thing they had ever seen. Our greeters (we have a greeter applying stickers to badges and inviting people in) told people to stay away… we’ve never had more people at the party.

Mordok, Qob!, tlhInganHom, and Qe’pa donned black armbands and presented the Feddies with a memorial to one of their fallen redshirt warriors, Lt. Jimmy Olsen, late of the USS Enterprise, who died valiantly wishing he could kick Rommie arse. The Feddies kept his picture on display the entire weekend.

The Ships of the CDQ were well represented with warriors from 4 ships attending. The RavensClaw from Duluth, The RavensShadow from Des Moines and the WarHammer as well as the RakeHell contributed mightily to the convention. We also had several new KAGsters sign up at the convention!

And we had the annual IKV Warhammer invitational bat'leth tournament.

Warriors gathered Saturday Morning for the 7th year to meet the challenge of battle and all were victorious in raising funds for the American Diabetes Association at Convergence.

Special Thanks go to Mordok sutai-Riveek for his tenacity, leading to the continuity of the tournament!

Marc Scovill was the last Warrior standing, earning him the the grand prize which was a four foot 'fancy' bat'leth, Tim Miller earned a second prize which was a 30" Bat'leth and a third prize was awarded for the Warrior who raised the most contributions for the ADA, K’Vetch of the RakeHell took home a 12" mounted one hand bat'leth.

Then the Klingon Weddings! We had 2 this year, the first a mixed marriage between a Klingon Female and a Star Wars Storm trooper. The Best man was the 6 Million Dollar Man and the matron of Honor was Mrs. Incredible. The ceremony was held in the central court and held up by a zombie flash mob dancing behind a zombie Michael Jackson to “Thriller” At Midnight, jIdo' and Trooper Qel were married in a Klingon ceremony. As is tradition at the end of the ceremony, the revelers attacked the happy couple with batleths, Trooper Qel showed quick wit by dispatching them with his blaster. The second wedding occurred Saturday night with much dancing and drumming before hand to a much larger crowd of well wishers, both ceremonies were officiated by Captain Qe’pa of the RakeHell. K'ditzy and K'lel were married in front of a huge crowd. Dahar Master K’Ditzy was the founder and first captain of the RakeHell. Their hoo-man wedding happened August 1st.

Saturday was full of other events as well. Central was the Masquerade and the RakeHell was well represented in it. Cadets Kaaren and Kaia Spiesz were in the Best Performance Winner headed by Master costumer Kat Pepmiller and Qob! and Kosh were part of an ensemble presentation of the 2 Minute Young Frankenstein which was a winner and a crowd pleaser as well.
There were too many photos to mention so go to flickr.com or photobucket.com and search for “CVG2009” or Convergence 2009

Later that night Qe’pa the Captain of the RakeHell and a fabulous belly dancer rocked the house at the Oasis party. There were panels galore covering all aspects of SF, and the Movie and anime fans were satisfied with as much as they could handle.

So much more happened! But we cannot fail to mention the “Klingon Christmas Carol” We passed out flyers for the 3rd annual performance of the restored classic. 12 performances this year! For more information go to http://www.cbtheatre.org
