CHANGE LOG

In Spring of '99 the process was begun to update the KAG Guidelines Handbook. Over a period of two years the Council of KAG reviewed each section. Some changes were made and much of the text was rewritten. In 2001, the new version was posted to the KAG website: www.kag.org/handbook . Due to the vagaries of communication in KAG, some people have been unaware of the changes. This Change Log is intended to draw attention to the places where significant changes have been made.

SECTION: RANKS AND HONORIFICS

*Changes to this section include a list of four 'Non-Commissioned' rank steps to award non-uniformed members. They are:

Lance-Corporal
Corporal
Sergeant
Sergeant-Major

* The four above ranks are for non-uniformed adult members (age 16 and over).

* A new (non-uniformed) crew member's starting rank is now Lance-Corporal. (This section replaces the older section on non-uniformed ranks which tied them to the member's age, and also replaces the former use of some of these ranks as Cadet ranks)

* Criteria for promotion up these four non-comm ranks is at the discretion of the Ship Commander.

* The Commissioned rank of 2nd Lieutenant (also known as Lt. J.G.) is immediately awarded upon the officer becoming uniformed, regardless of which non-comm rank he formerly held.

(The rank designation for a non-uniformed Ship Commander is still Ensign.)

---

*NEW STEP in the 'COMMISSIONED' RANKS: The honorific of 'sutai' is now granted as an upgrade to the rank of Lt. Cmdr.

---

*KAG's Cadet Corps, age and process of ranks of cadets has been redefined.

* A Cadet is anyone under age 16.

* Cadet rankings mirror Adult rankings up to the rank of Commander and are prefaced by the word 'Cadet'.

* Designation 'Gunship' has been reserved for Cadet ships.

SECTION: CHAIN OF COMMAND

*The paragraph on holding dual positions has been rewritten to allow them at the individual's discretion rather than at the discretion of Command.

---

*The High Council of KAG is introduced as a new informal structure.

--

*Fleets which were not included in the previous Handbook have been included, they are:

StormRider Fleet

--

*Fleet name 'Ring of Fire' has been removed from listing, its leadership having separated from KAG and formed a new club by that name.

--

*In Dark Moon Fleet, the old 'Central Quadrant' has been renamed the Dark Star Quadrant.

*In the Crimson Knight Fleet the old 'Eastern Quadrant' has been renamed the BirMIvHIq Quadrant

SECTION: AWARDS

*Text describing BattleNotch and Kill Stripe approval process has been reworded to state that the info is sent to the Fleet Commander or Division Head or his designee for approval (ie that the Fleet Commander may designate others to approve the awards). To find out who approves these awards in your Fleet, ask the Fleet Commander.
