The battle of ConCarolinas was an interesting one! Historically, this convention is NOT one where monies are raised. It is the Home Con for Dark Star Quadrant, established when Keela was DSQ CO, and typically a convention for fun and recreation. This year, because of Kwanzaa Family Inn’s great need for financial support, it was decided to do a fundraiser.
Unlike other events where the IKV Executioner (and especially the IKS Raging Wolf) raise funds, the con called for a “non-aggressive” method of fundraising. Hello, have you met us… we’re Klingons. The con staff suggested a raffle which worked out perfectly since Kwanzaa had been donated a nice set of Rada kitchen knives and several high-dollar stuffed animals from the KellyToy brand. The lady who supplied the knives also donated a roll of raffle tickets, plus the IKS Raging Wolf already had signage and other items to help put on a raffle, so everything fell into place for it to happen.
Taking its cue from an earlier event, the main table was set up with weapons only. The smaller table had the raffle items on it. Tickets were set at 50 cents each, a ploy designed to bring in huMans and it worked! The cutoff for raffle tickets was 11 am Sunday when Gortok drew the winning tickets. Qapla’ to the winners; you know who you are! Thanks to everyone who participated, we raised $200 for Kwanzaa Family Inn.
I have to mention Bill Blair who I just adore! He is the Guinness book of world records holder for the category “most special effect make-up characters portrayed in a career” with the new record number set May 6, 2011 is 202. Qapla’! Bill was a special guest at ConCarolinas and on Saturday he had a workshop on applying makeup and prosthetics. Sitting in for his originally planned make-up artist was Brian Holloway (also known as Taelon, a member of KAG). Brian did an excellent job in the short amount of time that he had, and Bill praised his skills afterwards.
Bill was made up as a half Cardassian, half Andorian named Lorath, and his uniform was awesome. At Keela’s request he attended the KAG meeting held about 8 pm Saturday evening with Cmdr. Gortok vestai QIHqem, Dark Star Quadrant CO.
During the KAG meeting it was announced officially that the IKV Executioner and the Raging Wolf would join as a single club. Mek’Tor’s rank as Marine Captain vestai was also officially announced. Also, Keela inducted Bill as an Honorary Member of the Imperial Xeno Legion of the Klingon Assault Group. A certificate will be mailed to him as soon as it is designed and printed. Qapla’ Lorath; you will henceforth be known as IXL Lt. Lorath tai! Afterwards, Keela and Lorath stalked the halls of the con for about an hour before parting ways.
The Warriors who participated in the fundraiser were Keela, K’Lisa, and Kas’Duj of the IKV Executioner; Mek’Tor of the IKV Mek’Tor’s Revenge; and Gortok, DSQ CO and CO of the IKV Grand Inquisitor. All costumed Warriors received a battle notch. Qapla’!
