AER: Starbase Indy 2013 – IKS pongHa’lu’

This past Thanksgiving weekend marks the 4th anniversary of the IKS pongHa’lu’.

And so our crew gathered at the Federation Starbase Indy; the birthplace of KAG.

We arrived and left in shifts based on duty schedules.

cha”Iv, Scotland, mIl’oD, and myself arrived early Friday afternoon.

After we docked our shuttle, we picked up our security clearance badges and made our way to our recruitment table.

Since last year, a Stargate has been installed on the station.

We were unable to determine how Starfleet obtained such technology.

The Con Suite was well stocked with food, and the Dealers’ Room was well stocked with merchandise.

They tried something new this year and extended Children’s Programming later into the day.

We stumbled upon Christmas Ornament Making and then stayed for a panel on fingerprints.

Even though there were other children present, the fingerprinting panel was mainly presented towards my children. Even out of uniform, Klingon children attract attention.

Each of the children was presented with a fingerprinting kit and a magnifying glass.

They were then to compare their prints with a chart of the standard categories.

After they gave it their best guess, a fingerprint specialist with the Indianapolis Police Department gave the prints a more official inspection.

Upon inspecting her print, it was easily identified as a “loop”…, but it was backwards.

All of the adults on the panel were very confused and intrigued by the fact that it was backwards.

I informed them that it was because she was Klingon.

They nodded knowingly, and said that they had wondered if there would be differences.

(She spent the next hour fighting with her brother. She now had proof. Proof! She had a fingerprinting expert identify that she was Klingon. And that she had a backwards loop. Her brother didn’t believe that she was really a Klingon. But she knew that she was.)

Varra spent a good portion of Friday manning the recruitment table while altering our children’s uniforms to accommodate how much they’ve grown.

Leading up to the Con, she worked on my uniform as well.

When SanHuD arrived, he began distributing our new ship pins and patches that had just come in.

They have made wonderful additions to all of our uniforms.

We were later joined by Mäe, and Olivia.

Mäe debuted her new uniform.

As she is half-Betazoid, half-Mexican, she wore a blue uniform-dress such as Counselor Troi wears.

SanHuD announced that he is almost ready to debut his uniform.

Friday evening finished up with a battle between Klingon band il Troubadour and Federation band 5 Year Mission.

About an hour before the concert, more Klingons finally arrived on the station.

I didn’t catch names, but they were from Kentucky, I believe.

The stage for the concert superficially resembled the bridge of a Galaxy-class starship.

il Troubadour entered the stage from the turbolift door stage left jokingly wearing Starfleet uniforms.

At the same time, 5 Year Mission came out of the Conference Room doors wearing 23rd Century Klingon uniforms.

Both bands came out laughing about their joke until the looked across the stage to realize that the other group had had the same idea.

It was a great concert.

And at the conclusion, J’onn announced that it was clear that the Klingons had obviously won.

After the show, it was discovered that my bottle of Captain naHQun’s Pungent Bloodwine had been stolen.

Fortunately this particular bottle didn’t contain actual bloodwine,
but was merely for show for our table.

Whoever the culprit is, they will be very sick if they drink the contents of that bottle.

Saturday morning began with a photo op with K’Ehleyr.

I posed in two photos with her; one with my mate and our children.

The other with SanHuD, chaj, and leSwI’.

ngoqS and his mate arrived.

Joan joined us as well.

After the photo op, cha”Iv, Olivia, and Scotland stuffed tribble trophies.

As this is a Federation starbase, the children weren’t expected to kill their own tribbles.

They were presented with tribble pelts which they were able to choose from.

Once selected, they stuffed them as hunting trophies and had an adult sewed them up.

Later on, cha”Iv joined a panel on learning to knit.

Even though she was presented with sub-standard equipment, she did a great job and was praised by the presenters for her skill.

I won a die-cast D7 in the silent auction.

Saturday evening at 10pm, the last panel of the day, I presented Klingon Anthropology Q&A.

For being so late in the evening, and competing with countless room parties, I managed to attract 21 participants.

Some of them had to be ordered into the room.

I had originally been asked to present a panel on Klingon sex.

Or at least Klingon pick up lines.

I didn’t feel that I had enough information, but the crowd decided to head that anyway with questions on topics such as porn, homosexuality, mating with other species, and ideas of beauty.

After the panel we posed for more pictures.
