AER – Mox meets the A&W Challenge

A&W MedalionDecember 2015, Thought Admiral Kris epetai-Kurkura issued a challenge not only to the Klin-Fire Fleet, but the Assault Group as a whole.

The Challenge?  The weekend of July 8-10 2016, he wanted members to mobilize and form raiding parties on Terran establishments known as A&W.

The Reason?  A joint exercise, done as a show of support for our brethren of four Fleets gathered together in Vulcan, Alberta, Canada for a most exciting venture…   Vul-Con 2016.

For those not traveling to that quadrant, the mission was simple.  Locate the establishment, dine, then not only proclaim it as a “Good Day to Dine”…  but claim the restaurant in the Name of the Klingon Empire, while our brethren do the same in the Northern Quadrants, and across the lands.

At the opening of his post he presented a shiny bauble for all to focus on as a teaser.  I dubbed it, The Order of the Root Beer.

A&W-1On the morning of my planned raid, my Parmachi was entertaining guests and requested that I take puqpuma’ on the mission as well.  The youngest two gleefully dove into their uniform of the day (a carry over from the Blue and Gold several months back), and the eldest pair decided that they would prefer to maintain their Terran disguises.

With everyone secured in the shuttlecraft we made our trek North.  The nearest establishment that I was able to locate was an hour North of our home coordinates.  Many Terrans gave us odd looks as we made our way north.  While the astro-navigation was not quite as accurate in distances, the chronometer reading was spot on.  One hour after our departure, I turned the engine off on our shuttle.  While most of the adult Terrans did not know what to make of our landing party, the Terran pups were much more inquisitive.  Once it was discovered that I would not be declaring martial law, and that we appeared to be there to dine, the adults began to inquire as to the reason for our arrival.  The purpose was freely revealed, and Klingon Fandom and the Klingon Assault Group was discussed.  Information was provided to potential recruits, as well as contact information.

The staff of the establishment seemed completely unaffected by our presence.

A&W7Upon the completion of our meal, it was declared a Good Day to Dine, and the facility was promptly claimed in the name of The Empire.

This was met with some challenge as it was discovered that this minor substation was frequented by Scouts and Scouters traveling to and from a summer training facility a few miles away.  After it was determined that I too would be traveling to that same training facility with a good sized Troop in the very near future, tensions seemed to ease and my declaration was accepted.

The return shuttle ride was uneventful though there was much chatter about possibly repeating this event.  While the same location would be enjoyed, other locations will also be first taken into consideration.
