Captain Keela zantai-Septaric, CO IKV Raging Wolf, reporting.

The ConCarolinas event was a successful battle in that KAG raised $200 there for Kawanzaa Family Inn (women’s shelter) and received $348 worth in items for the silent auction at Heroes Con the weekend of June. Thanks to everyone who gave money and/or donated items.

There were at least twenty members of KAG in key positions running ConCarolinas 2014. Many of them could not wear their uniforms while working, but I salute them all for their dedication to duty because this was the largest ConCarolinas in its history what with George R. R. Martin (Game of Thrones fame) in attendance as the Media Guest. They had their hands full as an unofficial head count appears to be at least 1,700 attendees.

We Star Trek fans were blessed to have Anthony Montgomery, aka Travis Mayweather, of Enterprise as a Media Guest. It was good to see him and, thanks to Hope Diaz of ConCarolinas (and KAG member), a cake was presented to him at his 1:30 pm panel in Main programming on Saturday in honor of his upcoming birthday on June 2nd. More on that below.

There was at least dozen other KAG members there who either remained cloaked for the convention or infiltrated other fan groups. It was good to see them as well. I want to encourage you to at least take the time to wear something KAG or Klingon related next year.

The Warriors I wish to point out and honor are the ones who appeared in costume at ConCarolinas:

IXL Major Grakus vestai-Mjolnir (Romulan), aka Lt. Cmdr. Kas’Duj vestai-Mjolnir, the CO of the IKV Executioner battled long and hard in honor of KAG, provided security at Klingon Karaoke, and raised funds for Kawanzaa Family Inn.

IXL Lt. Dink Dink tai-Majjas (Jawa), aka Lt. Kukana tai-Majjas, of the IKV Ghostwing served ConCarolinas and armored up for KAG activities with Anthony Montgomery, took holo-images, and provided ambiance.

IXL Leo Lev Dimitri tai (Furry/Caitian), Warrior at large, provided ambiance throughout the day Saturday and assisted with the KAG activities with Anthony Montgomery.

Thank you, noble Warriors, for your dedication to KAG and the Klingon Empire. Keep up the good work.

Timeline:

FRIDAY arrived safely that afternoon, powered up KAG table. Grakus and I armored up as Romulans. Klingon Karaoke was well received.

SATURDAY, Kas’Duj and I armored up as Imperial Klingons. We raised funds all day for Kawanzaa Family Inn. Also during the day I recruited Star Trek cosplayers to attend the Anthony Montgomery presentation and sit in the front row. Thanks to Lt. K’Vada tai for her assistance with this. At my request,K’vada wore Starfleet issue. I thank her for her sacrifice. At 1:25 p.m. we marched to Anthony’s table and escorted him to his presentation. I sang the Klingon anthem as we marched. Upon entering, we marched up on stage with him. He insisted that we pose with him before he released us from our duties.

Crowd control became an issue with regard to GRRM autograph line, so Leo was called to assist. At that time, I was informed that the cake presentation was in KAG’s capable hands, so I hurried to get it. We presented it to him and everyone sang “Happy Birthday.” Leo was dismissed to his crowd control duties and the presentation continued. Anthony got thirsty, so water was brought to him and a pitcher placed on the end of the table where the cake was. All was going well, when suddenly the table legs collapsed on that end and cake, water, microphones and Anthony’s phone slid off onto the stage. Anthony saved his phone and the cake was fine. It was pretty exciting for a few minutes there!

Later that evening Klingon Karaoke was successfully done. Even I sang, but I don’t sing much any more in Karaoke due to issues with my hearing aids. Afterwards, I asked Kas’Duj how I did and he said, “Your heart was in the right place.” DOH!

SUNDAY, we wore civilian clothes, I raised funds while Kas’Duj raised hell with the 501st. He had the former CO of the Carolinas Garrison, Tom Gardner, jailed in the Mandalorian Merc’s jail and bail. Afterwards, the hunt was on for Kas’Duj. He his in plain sight and after an hour decided to find out why they hadn’t found him. Meanwhile, I broke down the and packed it up to the car. Kas’Duj basically turned himself in, then called me on my cell phone and said, “I’m in jail.” I said, “I’m on my way.” He was eventually released.

It was a good battle for charity, a good convention overall, and I thank all who participated to make it successful.

Holo-images taken by Lt. Kukana are on Facebook.
