Kansas City Squadron One Ship at a Time

Over the years going to different Cons and events you find that you never feel out of place with fellow Klingons. For me there is only one group other than Klingons that I have ever felt that way with and that is the United States Marine Corps. With Marines they take care of their own, no matter if you know the Marine or not. As Klingons we are the same way; a Klingon is a fellow Brother or Sister. The members of my Ship, my Squadron, my Quadrant, my Fleet, or my KAG, each and every Klingon is part of my family.

With family you disagree, fight, and forgive, but we are always there for each other. I remember way back in 1998 the first time I had chatted back and forth with then Col. Kerla (her Marine side) bouncing ideas around about a Klingon Marine news letter and she happened to say something about Mindscanner, (if you ever want to make Kerla’s Blood Boil do what I did) and I replied I want nothing to do with that RAG! My computer started burning. I still have the email, she lit me up one side down the other and back again.

That being said the 1st Con I went to was ConQuesT in Kansas City and who was there Col. Kerla! I explained why I felt the way I did, looking in to Mindscanner on line back issues there was a lot of mudslinging and I wanted nothing to do with that. Col. Kerla did not want that to be the face that everyone else saw as KAG either. We Disagree, We Fight, and We Forgive be it ship level or higher, be it your house, between houses, Fleets, or Marine and Navy! Just remember we are all family and just because you are on a little ship in a corner of KAG you are never alone.

Here in the Kansas City Squadron this is even more evident to me. The Kansas City Squadron is made up of three ships in the Kansas City metro area and one ship from the Omaha, Nebraska area. Each one of our ships runs as an independent ship, but pull together as one in anything we do. Most of us started out attached to or had a sister ship in the Squadron that helped us. To be honest if it was not for the support of the other ships here in Kansas City, we probably would not have come back from dry-dock.

My ship doesn’t just have one sister ship, it has three. It is great to be able to bounce ideas off of each other. When you have ships working together as we do, if someone drops the ball we have someone else to pick it up and run with it. The IKAV Jev qul, IKV Guardians of Sto Vo Kor, IKV Sun’s Glory, and the IKAV Oath of the Demon Targh make up the Squadron. With time restraints and scheduling conflicts and the four letter word (work) it is hard to get a single crew to an event, and sometimes it is hard to get a member from all the ships to an event, but with that being said we normally have all of the ship captains in attendance, well all but our long distance ship the Sun’s Glory. But the short drive of three and a half hours one way is just a little much to undertake with the price of fuel and the drive time as well.

To make your time here on this third ball of mud from the Sun a little better be active in your ship. Ask questions, give ideas, be willing to put yourself out there, if your ship is failing or falling off the map don’t point your finger at the person in charge and say they better do something to get us going, it is up to each person on the ship, in the fleet, in KAG to make it what you want. Make your ship fun, have fun with it. The Party Ship is the hardest working ship in the Fleet Qa Pla’
