Looking Like the Old Ones
by Kris

Before there was Worf, or Kruge, or “zipper-head” Klingons rushing off to fight V’Ger, there were the TOS Klingons.

Kang & MaraTOS? The Original Series?  Maybe.  I prefer TOUGH ON STARFLEET.

Want that simple uniform “look”?  Want a nice lightweight costuming alternative?

Toughest to acquire has usually been the VEST/TUNIC.  ‘Til now.  Contact Dan at [email protected]  $50, includes shipping.  Let him know your size.  Telling Dan your address will help too! Great fabric--Dan’s told me it’s getting “hard to get”, so don’t wait too long!

SPARKLY PANTS?  That’d be swell, but I’ve found that black pants do the job, AND have pockets.  Go buy some.

BLACK TURTLENECK SWEATER.  These you should be able to find, but if not, try JCPENNEY CATALOG (1-800-222-6161).  Here’s an item number:  R515-6796.  That’s for Regular sizes.  $20.00 each, or $14.99 for 2 or more. Big/Tall:  R515-6992.  $28.00 each, or 20.99 for 2 or more.

SASH.  Do you need it?  Probably not.  However, if you’re REALLY after that basketweave fabric “look”, talk to DAN again at [email protected]  Price is $35.00, including shipping.

Your movie/TNG/DS9/Voyager (?!!) sash might work here.  Those old show Klingon leaders wore their sashes from left shoulder to right hip.

That makes the left hip free to carry around a SONIC DISRUPTOR PISTOL.

Klingon disruptorSources?  Most have dried up.  ICONS, MASTERS REPLICAS, a couple of others--gone.  On occasion you can find these delightful disruptor pistols on eBay, where they usually sell for $200--$400. These have swell sound effects, the same kind of warble that Kor’s soldiers used to mow down a courtyard of Organian prisoners (“Errand of Mercy”).

BUT ... there is MARCO ENTERPRISES.  I bought my first disruptor  pistol from Marco in 1981, and it still works, and is still my  favorite. Marco’s still in business, and sells Klingon disruptor pistols for $50.   Best thing is to send off for the Marco catalog.  Send Five Dollars to  Marco Enterprises, 293 N Spruce Drive, Anaheim CA 92805.  Marco also handles Klingon shackles, communicators, belt  buckles, lots of Star Wars blasters....lots of cool stuff. Tell ‘em John Halvorson sent you!

Klingon buckleI mentioned BELT BUCKLES.   TOS Klingons had that oddball angled job.  There are a few sources for these, but the best price and best size seems to come from SHADOW DALE CREATIONS. http://www.shadowdalecreations.com/klingon.htm  They have two versions of the belt buckle, one with a velcro backing, and the other with a regular belt-buckle post and what-not.

One element I don’t have sources for?  That great-looking Klingon woman’s uniform.  I find the thigh-high boots really sexy...on Klingon women.

If you know of a costumer that has TOS Klingon women’s uniforms available, let me know.   Hey, if you know of a TOS Klingon woman who’s available, let me know!

TOS Klingons.  They were so cool and memorable--simple, determined,  with a drive to expand the Empire that’s never been matched, or seen again.

Worth emulating, and worth the cost of the costuming!  Perfect for MARCON!
