AER: Charlotte Mini-Con

KAGTablePersonal Log Captain Keela zantai-Septaric:

On January 31, 2015, Charlotte Mini-Con was held at the Grady Cole Center in downtown Charlotte, NC. After arriving and setting up, I armored up as an Orion female. My boarding pass and the donation of a non-perishable food item for Second Harvest Food Bank had been dealt with earlier, so I turned myself to the business of raising funds for Wounded Warriors Project (requested by Lt. Cmdr. Kas’Duj vestai-Mjolnir in honor of his boss’s husband who had passed away that week) and Kwanzaa Family Inn, a struggling non-profit women’s shelter in Lenoir, NC. [If you would like to support us, send your monetary donations to 1631 Old North Road, Lenoir, NC 28645, with checks made out to Kwanzaa. Thank you.]

My adopted Son, IXL Lt. Armon tai, a classic Klingon from the Mirror Universe, did not arrive to assist me. I figured he had to work, but I was completely wrong. Unbeknownst to me, tragedy struck his real life family. Armon’s mother had passed away unexpectedly that morning, but I left my home before getting the news. If you did not join in our collective Death Howl for Mrs. Laurette Brown, feel free to howl now.

It was a hard fought battle as the location for the KAG table just happened to be on the wrong side of the registration table. One of the workers kept funneling entrants to the registration table, completely bypassing the KAG table. I managed to raise $227 despite this, but I really had to put myself out there.

During the day, I got to see many interesting cos-players. I got to speak with Kelvin Vod (disguised as Danny Seavers) who came to the table and assisted some. It was great to see you, Kelvin. Hope to see you again one day. Also I was visited by The Penguin (aka Dennis Walls); great talking to you too, nemesis of Batman! Good luck in nursing school!

I began to get ill from lack of food around 4:00 pm with just one hour to go, so I packed up the table and journeyed to T’Marr’s domicile to pick up a dress I had ordered. I shuttled as quickly as I could to the estate of House Mjolnir and there spent the night. Thank you for your hospitality! The next day, Kas’Duj and I counted the money and divided it evenly. The Wounded Warrior’s Project received $113.50 and Kwanzaa Family Inn received $113.50. Afterwards, I continued my journey home.

It was a glorious event, but saddened by the passing of Armon’s real life mother. Please keep him and his family in your prayers.

End log.
